My Name is Geoffrey – and I’m a Late Bloomer

After years of struggling with anxiety, depression, regrets, worries, and painfully low self-esteem, as well as my resulting morbid obesity, I now enjoy a healthy body and, more importantly, a sense of peaceful calm – a feeling that it’s finally okay to let the crowd race by while I stop to enjoy my coffee.

For much of my life I felt like an outsider — like I was “behind.” Everyone else seemed to be successfully chasing careers, milestones, and recognition, while I was still figuring things out.

But life has a way of teaching us lessons at its own pace. Some lessons come early. Others take decades to arrive.

That’s why I created Delayed Onset Living — to share what I’ve learned about starting late, learning late, and living late — without apology.

The Turning Point

I used to think I had “missed my chance.” But what I’ve discovered is this:

  • You’re never too old to reinvent yourself.
  • Starting late often means starting stronger — with more wisdom, resilience, and clarity than our younger versions.
  • Growth doesn’t expire.

The shift in mindset is what I call Delayed Onset Living — a second act worth showing up for.

The Book

I’m currently writing a book called Delayed Onset Living: Life Lessons for Late Bloomers.

It’s part memoir, part guidebook written for anyone who feels behind or befuddled and wants to finally live – with confidence and joy. Inside, I share:

  • My own story of how I learned my late-blooming lessons.
  • Practical tools for applying those lessons in your own life, no matter what your age.
  • Stories of other Late Bloomers who finally found their stride.

The Blog & Community

Alongside the book, I write weekly blog posts about:

  • Mindset shifts for late bloomers.
  • Simple habits and “micro-experiments” to spark growth.
  • Lessons from life, aging, and the power of persistence.

I also send a weekly newsletter with encouragement, practical tips, and updates about the book.

Some Personal Notes

A few quick things about me:

  • I’m 71 years old and living proof that you’re never too late to bloom.
  • I walk daily, lift weights twice a week, and believe that positive change comes from small, consistent choices.
  • I created this site not as an expert handing down professional advice, but as a fellow traveler sharing whatever wisdom I’ve gained along my path.

Let’s Bloom

If you’ve ever felt like life passed you by, I want you to know: you’re not late. You’re right on time.

Welcome to Delayed Onset Living. Let’s write the next chapter together.
