My name is Geoffrey Geddes and I’m a proud dad, a joyful grandpa, a dedicated life coach for seniors, and a grateful Late Bloomer.
After years of struggling with anxiety, depression, regrets, worries, and painfully low self-esteem, as well as my resulting morbid obesity, I now enjoy a healthy body and, more importantly, a sense of peaceful calm – a feeling that it’s finally okay to let the crowd race by while I stop to enjoy my coffee.
That’s why I titled this website “Delayed Onset Living.” It struck me one day as I was sipping one of my bullet brews that it might have been nice to have experienced these feelings of calm acceptance and contentment many years ago, before my hair fell out and I could no longer do back flips. As that thought arose, I reacted as I generally do these days by tagging it as a less-than-helpful “regrettable” and letting it slip away.
Acceptance, resilience, and contentment, delayed or otherwise, are damned wonderful things.
Since 2012, starting at age 58, I’ve overcome my disordered eating, completed a master’s degree in counseling psychology, and climbed Mt. Fuji with my oldest son. Through my writing and coaching, I attempt to understand and share with fellow oldsters (and anyone else who’s interested) the many threads of thoughts, feelings, and actions that came together for me in a tapestry of understanding and transformation during that time.
